Taking a bit of a departure from the British Championship, we're moving on to an actual top class World Championship spec machine (although not actually entered into the Championship that year...) the group 4 Audi Quattro driven by the Stig himself!
Having been given the opportunity to drive a works Audi Quattro for 1982 as a privately entered car under the Audi Sport Sweden team Stig knew he had little chance of winning his home rally, Hannu Mikkola had dominated in this car the year before and there was already an agreement in place to ensure the works cars finished ahead of him.
All it takes is a couple of accidents however and from having the engine fail on stage one, to being in a works sandwich at the start of the final day Stig ended up taking the victory! Luckily for Audi this rally was not eligable for manufacturer points!
Stig also took this car to victory in the Swedish championship, winning 6 of the 7 rounds and he also took the Nordic Cup title.
Initally created for my few rallies in the F&J Winter series, a few changes and some squinting at number plates (with thanks to Jannecord!) later we have the finished article...I think...
